19:04:17 <wilcal> Welcom all to this weeks QA meeting
19:04:37 <wilcal> #topic Who's new?
19:05:01 <wilcal> Anyone new here today
19:05:59 <wilcal> Hello David
19:06:16 <wilcal> #chair DavidWHodgins
19:06:16 <Inigo_Montoya_> Current chairs: DavidWHodgins wilcal
19:06:17 <DavidWHodgins> Sorry, my connection is being a bit flaky today. Not sure where the problem is.
19:06:28 <wilcal> No problem
19:06:54 <wilcal> So with David here we can go to
19:06:55 <DavidWHodgins> Have to keep rebooting the cable modem to get it to reconnect.
19:06:56 <wilcal> #topic Election
19:07:14 <wilcal> Is what was communicated on the ML OK for now
19:07:39 <DavidWHodgins> Looks like we can skip a vote and just go with continuing based on acclimation
19:08:02 <wilcal> I'm fine with that
19:08:14 <wilcal> So you get to proclaim that here and make it official
19:08:54 <DavidWHodgins> #info Current team leaders re-elected by acclimation
19:09:05 <wilcal> I second that
19:09:15 <wilcal> we're good to go for another year
19:09:20 <DavidWHodgins> Yep
19:09:30 <wilcal> Lets move on
19:09:33 <wilcal> #topic Mageia 8 - How's it going?
19:09:52 <wilcal> I've been pounding on two issues with M8
19:10:29 <wilcal> Last week it was just the overall size of M8 Plasma grows quickly out of the Vbox default size of 20GB
19:10:56 <wilcal> Increasing a Vbox client virtual drive to like 30GB is a pain
19:11:22 <wilcal> So recommend that always a Vbox M8 Plasma Client start with 30GB
19:12:57 <DavidWHodgins> Using a fixed size instead of dynamic improves performance a lot.
19:13:11 <wilcal> This weeks issue I was setting up my last server and ran right into problems with NFS shares
19:13:32 <DavidWHodgins> Otherwise every write has to find space to increase the underlying vdi file
19:13:47 <wilcal> what used to work in M7.1 didn't work in M8
19:14:03 <wilcal> Ya it kepts growing and growing and growing
19:14:53 <wilcal> The NFS issue seemed to be different depending on M8 install
19:15:01 <DavidWHodgins> A big part of that is things like akonadi that indexes everything.
19:15:35 <wilcal> And other platforms trying to mount M8 directory shares
19:15:38 <DavidWHodgins> And also the creation of snapshots of all pictures it can find
19:16:00 <wilcal> M8 Plasma Live-DVD has nfs-utils preinstalled
19:16:30 <wilcal> but seems to work differently with installing from netinstall
19:16:56 <wilcal> I am using a Raspberry Pi to mount an M8 share
19:17:33 <wilcal> and that didn't work where it worked fine with an M7.1 NFS shared directory
19:17:50 <DavidWHodgins> When a package is included in the iso images, recomended packages do not get installed. They do (if approved) when using urpmi
19:18:10 <wilcal> Anyway this morning I've got most of it straigent out
19:18:24 <wilcal> https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28907
19:18:26 <[mbot> [ 28907 – M8 NFS directory share does not seem to work for me ]
19:18:52 <wilcal> I'll probably move that to resolved tomorrow with notes in there
19:19:03 <wilcal> Here's one for both of us David
19:19:24 <DavidWHodgins> Also try "rpm -e --nodeps nfs-utils" and then urpmi nfs-utils to see if it pulls in other packages
19:19:24 <auroud85> hello there, sorry late
19:19:35 <wilcal> the Access has two choicess. They are: "*" and "*."
19:20:04 <wilcal> If your eyes are aging you don't see that extrra "." and if you choose that nothing workd
19:20:17 <DavidWHodgins> From my skimming of the bug report, it's already been identified that *. shouldn't be there.
19:20:36 <wilcal> Super job
19:20:38 <DavidWHodgins> Having it there is a bug, but not a regression that would stop the update
19:21:02 <wilcal> That was probably my biggest problem. I kept choosing the "x."
19:21:12 <DavidWHodgins> :-)
19:21:26 <wilcal> We share that problem right David
19:21:57 <wilcal> My next eye doctor visit is in Aug :-)
19:22:33 <DavidWHodgins> I need to get my eyes checked again too. Left eye is now blurry with current glasses
19:22:47 <wilcal> oveHi Tar
19:22:57 <wilcal> Any issues on M8?
19:23:11 <tarazed> Hi wilcal - had to install irssi to get in.
19:23:13 <auroud85> No issues on M8, nor M7
19:23:27 <tarazed> Nope, not come across any.
19:23:32 <auroud85> again, these are last M7 updates before end of month.
19:23:40 <DavidWHodgins> I haven't seen any unusual bug reports
19:24:03 <DavidWHodgins> Yes. We need to flush out as many as we can before then
19:24:22 <tarazed> Still a lot of grey
19:24:23 <auroud85> There are many Updates waiting for feddback from packagers. We should "toc toc toc" again...
19:24:39 <wilcal> BTW the raspberry pi NFS system is flakey
19:24:54 <auroud85> tarazed, for avahi, it works on my systems
19:25:09 <tarazed> ACK
19:25:13 <auroud85> and being able to print to my AirPrint Canon printer ;à
19:25:14 <auroud85>19:25:16 <DavidWHodgins> We should review each of them and see if we can work around whatever caused the feedback tag to be added
19:25:19 <wilcal> Especially getting /etc/fstab to mount at boot. Good luck
19:25:25 <tarazed> Not on mine though - lack of knowledge
19:25:32 <auroud85> ah
19:25:42 <auroud85> should be "plug and play"
19:26:14 <auroud85> but, printer must be already configured to the network before if it is WiFi, as I use WiFi printer this is OK
19:26:15 <tarazed> Yeah, in my dreams
19:26:23 <DavidWHodgins> IIRC nfs has a lazy mount option to ensure it waits for the network to become available. Don't remember the details though
19:26:28 <auroud85> but, firewall prevents functionning
19:26:35 <auroud85> have to open some ports
19:26:59 <tarazed> We need a primer on all this stuff
19:27:05 <DavidWHodgins> That's a normal part of configuring network printers
19:27:10 <auroud85> Yep
19:27:27 <DavidWHodgins> Which ports depends on which printer/scanner
19:27:44 <auroud85> Often, I open my machines firewall as I do have a router with a firewall...
19:27:47 <DavidWHodgins> Which is why it isn't automatic, as I understand it.
19:27:53 <auroud85> yes
19:27:56 <auroud85> yes David.
19:28:02 <wilcal> All my LAN systems are installed with all ports open. I use the routher to keep the baddies out
19:28:12 <tarazed> Same here
19:28:45 <wilcal> I also turn off shorewall
19:28:58 <auroud85> Bye folks, need to go baby time. See you next time.
19:29:16 <tarazed> Thanks auroud85
19:29:18 <DavidWHodgins> I keep shorewall on but do open the lan with lines like ACCEPT net:192.168.0.0/16 fw in shorewall
19:29:21 <wilcal> Hi TJ
19:29:29 <auroud85_away> forgot to say +1 for vote !
19:29:37 <DavidWHodgins> Thanks
19:29:38 <MageiaTJ> Hi. Got a minute to take a break.
19:30:08 <wilcal> Any iissues with M8 or 7
19:30:26 <MageiaTJ> None for me.
19:30:51 <bri_an> nothing significant
19:31:31 <DavidWHodgins> So far m8 is working well for me on the two systems I've upgraded from m7
19:31:34 <wilcal> I''ve been working this:
19:31:35 <wilcal> https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28907
19:31:38 <[mbot> [ 28907 – M8 NFS directory share does not seem to work for me ]
19:31:47 <wilcal> and will probably mark it resolved tomorrow
19:31:58 <MageiaTJ> Just that we have bugs waiting for feedback in M7, and it's supposed to be eol in a few days.
19:32:06 <wilcal> All the notes are in there
19:33:24 <DavidWHodgins> Note that when the kernel update is ready, it will be very high priority due to the fragattack publicity
19:33:44 <wilcal> This weekend?
19:33:57 <DavidWHodgins> That's up to tmb. :-)
19:34:08 <DavidWHodgins> https://mobile.slashdot.org/story/21/05/12/0115232/tech-industry-quietly-patches-fragattacks-wi-fi-flaws-that-leak-data-weaken-security?utm_source=rss1.0moreanon&utm_medium=feed
19:34:09 <[mbot> [ Tech Industry Quietly Patches FragAttacks Wi-Fi Flaws That Leak Data, Weaken Security - Slashdot ]
19:35:01 <wilcal> Gracious
19:35:23 <MageiaTJ> The attack that shut down the fuel pipeline is getting lots of press in the US. Ransomeware, wasn't it?
19:35:39 <DavidWHodgins> It affects both firmware and kernel modules
19:35:40 <wilcal> Is any of this Colonial Pipe hack have any relevance to us?
19:35:52 <DavidWHodgins> MageiaTJ: Yeah. Unpatched windows systems
19:36:07 <wilcal> Old ones
19:36:19 <DavidWHodgins> Directly connected to the internet too.
19:36:28 <wilcal> Oh f..k
19:36:30 <MageiaTJ> I want to feel smug, but probably not a good idea.
19:36:54 <wilcal> Win 2000 stuff?
19:36:57 <DavidWHodgins> They had a security audit spring last year but had made no changes
19:37:23 <DavidWHodgins> Basically old windows systems with most security ignored for years
19:37:31 <wilcal> OMG
19:37:41 <MageiaTJ> So all they had to do to prevent it was keep things up to date?
19:38:26 <DavidWHodgins> Competent IT people cut shareholder profits!
19:38:54 <MageiaTJ> Until the fertilizer hits the fan...
19:39:13 <DavidWHodgins> The shareholders don't care. Gov't will bail them out.
19:39:18 <wilcal> Probably obsolete Windows systems
19:39:20 <Bequimao> If you have software that runs only on older system, upgrade become really expensive.
19:39:54 <wilcal> Most ATM's as I understand have been moved off of Win XP
19:40:17 <DavidWHodgins> True. But that's part of the problem. Choosing proprietary software written for a proprietary os
19:40:59 <DavidWHodgins> Anyway, enough politics stuff. :-)
19:41:01 <wilcal> I think we're in the
19:41:02 <wilcal> #topic Anything else?
19:41:05 <wilcal> phase
19:41:09 <DavidWHodgins> #topic * Anything else?
19:41:34 <DavidWHodgins> Nothing else here
19:41:49 <wilcal> Me too so I'll start a slow count down
19:41:52 <wilcal> T-5
19:41:55 <wilcal> thanks all for being here
19:42:13 <MageiaTJ> I need to get back to work...
19:42:14 <wilcal> very good meeting today
19:42:18 <wilcal> T-4
19:42:18 <DavidWHodgins> I'll post the links to the logs
19:42:25 <wilcal> Thanks David
19:42:28 <wilcal> T-3
19:42:30 <MageiaTJ> Sorry I missed most of it.
19:42:35 <wilcal> T-2
19:42:39 <wilcal> No problem
19:42:43 <wilcal> T-1
