Welcome to another QA meeting. 19:12:40 <MageiaTJ> #topic Anyone new? 19:13:21 <MageiaTJ> If there is anyone here who hasn't been to a QA meeting before, please introduce yourself. 19:13:29 <wilcal> sorry late got involved in something 19:13:34 <MageiaTJ> Wilcal!!! 19:13:40 <wilcal> Your the man TJ 19:13:44 <MageiaTJ> #chair wilcal 19:13:44 <Inigo_Montoya> Current chairs: MageiaTJ wilcal 19:13:45 <wilcal> sorry 19:14:08 <MageiaTJ> And now so are you, wilcal. All yours... 19:14:16 <wilcal> You got the gavil TJ 19:14:25 <wilcal> one subject today 19:14:37 <wilcal> Update from M7 -> M8 19:15:49 <bri_an> sounds good 19:15:49 <MageiaTJ> Yes. I was going to use mgaonline on my brother's computer, but it's not showing up. 19:15:52 <wilcal> lets see if this works 19:15:56 <wilcal> #topic Mageia 7 to 8 updating 19:16:03 <wilcal> Worked 19:16:05 <bri_an> I haven't done any recent ones. Anything new? 19:16:10 <wilcal> lots and lots of chatter 19:16:16 <wilcal> how bad is it 19:17:06 <wilcal> I just did a: 19:17:07 <wilcal> urpmi --auto-update --auto 19:17:17 <MageiaTJ> I haven't done one in a while. 19:17:24 <wilcal> with the M8 repo instead of the M7 and that worked fine 19:17:48 <wilcal> went just fine 19:17:54 <bri_an> okay - I figure the MGAapplet and Classic ISO are the most common, as they are GUI based. 19:18:32 <MageiaTJ> I'm sure I could do that with my brother's machine, but I wanted to use the applet. 19:19:13 <MageiaTJ> I set things up so it should show up with the notice of a new release, but nothing. 19:19:41 <wilcal> When you do the upgrade the way I did about 2500 files get updated 19:19:54 <bri_an> yeah I haven't looked lately, was it disabled again? 19:19:57 <wilcal> but it boots back ok and even Vbox gets updated and works 19:20:55 <bri_an> nice - that is about how my upgrades have gone so far. HOlding off on a couple for M7 testing 19:21:38 <MageiaTJ> That's right - I did do a Gnome system upgrade in vbox so I had an M8 one for testing. I used the netinstall iso, and it worked fine. 19:22:17 <wilcal> I have never trusted upgrades and always started with a blank drive and new install 19:22:22 <bri_an> any fix for the screensaver issue? 19:22:43 <wilcal> but using urpmi --auto-update --auto works great for me 19:23:03 <wilcal> I wish David was here. He seems to be involved 19:23:25 <wilcal> I think we need to quantify how severe the problems are 19:23:35 <MageiaTJ> Yes. That's where his focus has been lately. 19:23:57 <wilcal> is it lots of packages or just a few or a problem with magpapplet 19:26:04 <bri_an> I don't know, I just read about hte screensaver activating and causing issues. I ran into that before. There was an email discussion about disabling it as part of the upgrade 19:26:26 <bri_an> doesn't seem anyone is one that can answer that at the moment. 19:26:43 <wilcal> I saw the screensaver thing. But that would not preclude operation 19:27:17 <bri_an> except people panic and reboot 19:27:37 <wilcal> So if anything out of this discussion maybe a bug needs to be raised so there's one place to put problems 19:28:06 <wilcal> The two times I've upgraded here have been pretty robust 19:28:09 <MageiaTJ> There are always a few glitches that show up after the release is out. Usually outlier packages that we didn't test. 19:28:22 <wilcal> I was playing with backgrounds today 19:28:37 <wilcal> I'll try screensavers to see if that's defective 19:29:11 <wilcal> So for now we can't identify any specific common problem(s) 19:29:29 <wilcal> No boots to "kernel panic" 19:29:37 <MageiaTJ> That's where I seem to be a little odd. I like to use my own photos for backgrounds. 19:30:43 <wilcal> I put all my backgrounds on the central server and then the other two systems boot and find their background via NFS mount there 19:30:58 <wilcal> that way I know the mount worked 19:31:05 <wilcal> I've been doing that for years 19:32:19 <wilcal> So I'll open a Bug for M7 -> M8 upgrade complaints and see if people put things there 19:33:07 <wilcal> Let move on 19:33:08 <wilcal> #topic Mageia 7 to 8 bug testing 19:33:21 <wilcal> many thanks to all list is getting shorter 19:34:08 <MageiaTJ> But, I see another kenel to be tested... TMB is a busy guy. 19:34:31 <wilcal> Kernels are always fun. Fills a day up for me 19:35:30 <MageiaTJ> Lots of M7 bugs with feedback flags. 19:36:11 <wilcal> Ya take those out and the kernel and the list is decent 19:36:27 <wilcal> lets move on 19:36:28 <wilcal> #topic Anything else? 19:36:35 <wilcal> I don't 19:36:52 <bri_an> nothing here 19:36:52 <wilcal> I'll open that bug and see if anyone adds issues to it 19:36:59 <wilcal> I'm done 19:37:00 <bri_an> thanks wilcal 19:37:04 <wilcal> sorry for being a little late 19:37:26 <MageiaTJ> You'll probably see less and less of me for a while now. It's that time of year again. 19:37:42 <wilcal> got involved with Gimp and Loony Tunes images. Like Bugs Bunny stuff :-)) 19:37:56 <wilcal> Keeps your focus 19:38:15 <MageiaTJ> Watch for a Gimp update for M8 soon. 19:38:19 <wilcal> So lets count it down 19:38:32 <wilcal> thanks all for being here 19:38:37 <wilcal> T-5 19:38:54 <wilcal> T-4 19:39:00 <wilcal> T-3 19:39:06 <wilcal> See ya all next week 19:39:13 <wilcal> T-2 19:39:17 <wilcal> T-1 19:39:20 <wilcal> #endmeeting
