19:02:08 <wilcal> #topic Who's new?
19:02:14 <wilcal> Anyone new here today
19:03:20 <wilcal> #topic Testing Megaia 7 & 8 updates
19:03:31 <wilcal> A couple of spirited subjects today
19:03:44 <jose__> yes
19:04:08 <wilcal> #topic Firefox ESR acceptance
19:04:24 <wilcal> This is an on going situation
19:04:45 <jose__> The Firefox ESR issue is debated
19:05:09 <wilcal> We use the firefox ESR which is a slow moving Browser, kinda the same thing for Chrome
19:05:27 <wilcal> But Hello david
19:05:29 <DavidWHodgins> Oop. Sorry I'm late
19:05:36 <wilcal> No problem
19:05:51 <wilcal> we're talking about the Browser discussion in the ML
19:05:59 <wilcal> Hi TJ
19:06:13 <MageiaTJ> Hi.
19:06:19 <DavidWHodgins> Switching to the non esr version is not the right fix. The proper fix is to find out what patches are needed and get them included in our esr version
19:06:21 <jose__> Yes, the problem of ESR is the longe, longe support
19:06:28 <wilcal> #chair DavidWHodgins
19:06:28 <Inigo_Montoya> Current chairs: DavidWHodgins wilcal
19:06:59 <wilcal> IMO there are two things effecting the browser situation
19:07:06 <DavidWHodgins> The people who want the non esr can always install directly from mozilla. We shouldn't change our support policy based on one problem
19:07:20 <wilcal> One is security issues that change all the time like with banks
19:07:20 <DavidWHodgins> Ok, Two problems.
19:07:47 <MageiaTJ> I agree. I searched for problems with Firefox 78.9 esr and found all but nothing. That points to OUR version as at fault.
19:07:49 <wilcal> The other is to have the latest Gee Whiz features on a website
19:08:00 <DavidWHodgins> We did include the non esr version at one time. We stopped for good reason
19:08:01 <guygoye[m]> Patch ESR is the right way to me
19:08:12 <jose__> I'm in dinner... sorry
19:08:20 <Luigi12> the ESR isn't even the issue people are discussing now on the list, it's that our package has issues that the upstream build doesn't
19:08:29 <Luigi12> joeghi has been telling me that for probably over a year now
19:08:32 <wilcal> I went round and round with my Bank, Bank of America, over a feature change on their website. It's like taking to a stone
19:08:40 <Luigi12> could be issues with external libraries, build flags, patches, we don't know
19:08:57 <Luigi12> Bank of America site has always worked fine for me
19:09:40 <MageiaTJ> Keybank refuses to let me even attempt to log in with the ESR.
19:09:53 <wilcal> For awhile BofA for me kept throwing up a security warning about my Firefox
19:09:56 <jose__> I have problem wiht my login in Bankinter bussiness, with the official ESR works fine
19:10:24 <DavidWHodgins> My bank stopped working in firefox. It worked with chromium, so after changing it's settings and confirming with wireshark that it wasn't sending stuff to google, that's what I used until the bankd fixed the problem.
19:11:14 <DavidWHodgins> jose__: That could be due to it using a different profile with different plugs or settings. Try the Mageia version in a new user
19:11:31 <DavidWHodgins> s /plugs/plugins/
19:11:37 <Luigi12> yeah that's the other thing I forgot, some issues could be user profile issues
19:11:52 <jose__> no, no, I remove all Firefox settings, profile, all.... and nothing..
19:11:54 <MageiaTJ> Keybank has no problem with Firefox 86, which is what made me think of the user-agent thing first.
19:12:43 <jose__> Too I tried
19:12:48 <wilcal> So downloading the latest Firefox and using that instead of ESR works fine?
19:12:49 <jose__> And nothing
19:12:49 <MageiaTJ> And so far, Keybank has been the only site with an issue for me.
19:12:55 <DavidWHodgins> We need to figure out what's wrong with our version and fix that. Not switch to a different version.
19:13:06 <MageiaTJ> wilcal: For me, yes.
19:13:08 <jose__> However, with the official version ok
19:13:30 <wilcal> Last time I did that was when I had the issue with BofA
19:13:31 <DavidWHodgins> I know it's frustrating
19:13:32 <MageiaTJ> Dave, totally agree.
19:13:44 <jose__> Now, i am with the esr version, for resolve this bugs...
19:14:52 <wilcal> So we should expect a Firefox ESR update in the coming weeks?
19:15:27 <DavidWHodgins> As soon as our packager can figure out what's wrong and apply the fix to our version.
19:16:31 <DavidWHodgins> Anything anyone affected can do to help id what fixes it (lib version, settings, etc.) would help
19:16:45 <wilcal> OK lets move to the next issue
19:16:49 <wikigazer> do we know if the FF.esr issue only affects Mageia? Are other distros that have FF.esr OK?
19:16:49 <bri_an> hi All
19:16:53 <jose__> Perhaps it would be convenient to rebuild from scratch?
19:16:55 <wilcal> #topic Chromium browser crash after few seconds
19:17:00 <Benmc> sorry guys, got to go for abit
19:17:10 <wilcal> I could not reproduce this
19:17:19 <DavidWHodgins> wikigazer: We don't know
19:17:22 <wilcal> https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28631
19:17:24 <[mbot> [ 28631 – Chromium browser crash after few seconds ]
19:17:56 <wilcal> Anyone reproduce this?
19:18:06 <DavidWHodgins> I can't reproduce as I don't have a dumb tv
19:18:07 <jose__> Does that happen with a clean installation of Mageia or upgrading from Mageia 7?
19:18:51 <wilcal> Boy there's a question
19:18:57 <Luigi12> and FWIW, Ubuntu's non-ESR Firefox build is buggy. Frequently it'll go crazy and start displaying all characters as funny looking boxes and you have to restart it.
19:19:25 <wilcal> Gracious
19:19:34 <jose__> I don't understand this.
19:19:46 <guygoye[m]> I can test to see if i can reproduce
19:20:07 <wilcal> I'm not seeing any problems with FF or Chrome on my Raspberry Pi's
19:20:54 <wilcal> And another problem on the ML
19:21:04 <wilcal> #opic F1 (help) crash libreoffice. Upgrade issue for some.
19:21:13 <DavidWHodgins> My understanding is it's about using chromium to send "cast" a video to a dumb tv running it's own os that spies on you
19:21:16 <wilcal> #topic F1 (help) crash libreoffice. Upgrade issue for some.
19:21:29 <wilcal> https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28743
19:21:31 <[mbot> [ 28743 – F1 (help) crash libreoffice. Upgrade issue for some. ]
19:21:34 <wilcal> I cannot reproduce
19:21:53 <DavidWHodgins> Neither can I, so it's likely due to keeping /home
19:21:58 <jose__> I cannot reproduce
19:22:12 <DavidWHodgins> With some non standard settings
19:22:37 <wilcal> These were three hot issues on the ML with only the Browser issues confirmed for now
19:23:05 <wilcal> Over to you Dave, any hot issues
19:23:24 <DavidWHodgins> I'm still working on upgrade issues/tests
19:24:33 <DavidWHodgins> I found a problem with memtest86+ in that during upgrade, upgrade-grub gets run before it's removed, but not again after it's removed
19:24:34 <wilcal> I see the maggapliet thing is now visiable
19:25:16 <DavidWHodgins> Manually running it after the upgrade finished fixed the problem, so didn't recreate the problem the user was having where it wouldn't work after upgrade
19:26:06 <wilcal> Any reports of upgrade problems on the discussion forum?
19:26:35 <DavidWHodgins> During that testing I ran into another problem, with flatpak. I removed flatpak and finished my testing to try and recreate the grub problem. Am currently re testing to see if I can recreate the flatpak problem.
19:26:50 <jose__> Do I have an update pending from Mageia 7 on one of my computers, something to be afraid of?
19:27:23 <DavidWHodgins> jose__: No
19:27:35 <wilcal> Lets move to:
19:27:36 <wilcal> #topic Testing Megaia 7 & 8 updates
19:27:42 <wilcal> list is shorter
19:27:58 <wilcal> Kernel update went through here without issues
19:28:06 <DavidWHodgins> I haven't even looked at the list as I've been focusing on upgrades
19:28:13 <MageiaTJ> Chromium running for over 5 minutes - no crash.
19:28:21 <Luigi12> I haven't been able to report new bugs for a month because $dayjob has been crazy
19:28:48 <DavidWHodgins> So we can expect to get swamped again when you have more time. :-(
19:29:05 <wilcal> We had plenty to keep us busy
19:29:18 <MageiaTJ> There are some that have been on the list for a long time.
19:29:37 <Bequimao> https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28328 should be Mga8, not Cauldron.
19:29:39 <[mbot> [ 28328 – Steam cannot be installed with the one-click button proposed with Mageia Welcome ]
19:30:08 <DavidWHodgins> Bequimao: It get's fixed in cauldron first, then m8 and m7
19:30:47 <wilcal> Some of those long standing bugs are exotic probably no one knows how to use them?
19:30:50 <jose__> I have it updated
19:31:54 <MageiaTJ> I've passed some on a clean install, but I keep thinking that'll burn me in the backside someday.
19:31:59 <DavidWHodgins> cauldron only bugs should not be assigned to qa though
19:32:01 <wilcal> Like:
19:32:02 <wilcal> https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28504
19:32:04 <[mbot> [ 28504 – mplayer can't read video files with dav1d codec; this bugs contains the fix. ]
19:32:18 <wilcal> I have no idea where to start on that one
19:32:59 <DavidWHodgins> Ask in the bug report for a sample video to show the problem
19:33:19 <Bequimao> Why should we test Cauldron at all before Mga7 EOL?
19:33:35 <DavidWHodgins> Cauldron updates do not go through qa
19:33:47 <DavidWHodgins> Never have
19:34:16 <DavidWHodgins> Rather, they only do when we start testing iso images
19:34:18 <wilcal> Any other issues in the to do bug list?
19:35:14 <wilcal> Lets move on
19:35:16 <wilcal> #topic Anything else?
19:35:25 <DavidWHodgins> Nothing else here
19:35:26 <wilcal> I don't have anything
19:35:49 <wilcal> Thanks to all for the disscussiion if the ML issues
19:36:01 <MageiaTJ> Nothing here. I should get back to the field before my brother fires me.
19:36:08 <wilcal> Anything David?
19:36:15 <jose__> For me ok
19:36:30 <jose__> I wait for ESR corrections
19:36:30 <wilcal> Time for countdown
19:36:34 <wilcal> T-5
19:36:51 <wilcal> T-4
19:36:58 <wilcal> thanks all. see you next week
19:37:01 <wilcal> T-3
19:37:03 <ZekeMX> I was thinking of using my old IRC chat nick ¨SpeedyGonzalez´ BTW...
19:37:08 <ZekeMX> Naaa
19:37:13 <wilcal> T-2
19:37:17 <wilcal> T-1
