19:01:52 <wilcal> thaks all for being here.
19:02:05 <wilcal> #topic Who's new?
19:02:14 <wilcal> anyone new here today
19:02:52 <wilcal> Lets go to
19:02:54 <wilcal> #topic M8 Beta 1 testing
19:03:20 <wilcal> Anyone have anytihing on M8 other then, even for me, it seems to be quite stable
19:03:40 <wilcal> I am chasing what appears to be a major issue, at least for me
19:03:57 <wilcal> Anyone with anything before I present that
19:04:44 <MageiaTJ> I haven't looked at it for about a month.
19:05:00 <wilcal> So I am going to post this here and let you all read it. It is quite lengthly
19:05:37 <wilcal> I am working a problem with M8 that I don't fully understand yet enough to create a bug. It has to do with viewing an mp4 video at least in VLC. The sound plays, the video does not. This has started occuring in the last week or so. Other video players, and DE, are exhibiting the same problem. Sound but no video. Open a terminal to the directory with a test mp4 file and do this: ffplay test.mp4 and the video and sound play just fine. Going back to Mageia-
19:05:38 <wilcal> 8-beta1-Live-Plasma-x86_64.iso ( 7/19/20 ) and VLC plays both the video and audio just fine. I have much more testing to do and will generate a bug when I understand the parameters better. Any suggestions are appreciated. Note that M7.1 works everywhere with everything just fine on the same platform. If I run a Vbox client, M8 Host Vbox M8 client, VLC plays mp4 files video and audio just fine.
19:06:55 <wilcal> Hi hv
19:07:06 <hviaene> Hi all, sorry to be late
19:07:19 <wilcal> can u see the post I just made about VLC?
19:07:26 <hviaene> No
19:07:33 <wilcal> I'll post it again

19:08:37 <MageiaTJ> Is this with the tainted or non-tainted VLC?
19:08:46 <wilcal> tainted
19:09:01 <hviaene> I'll give it a try tomorrow
19:09:24 <wilcal> other video playerss are exhibiting the same problem
19:09:30 <wilcal> It's not just VLC
19:09:48 <wilcal> kdenlive works find, VLC does not
19:09:53 <MageiaTJ> So something in common, like maybe ffmpeg.
19:10:11 <wilcal> ffplay runs in a termina on a test mp4 just fine
19:10:17 <Benmc> Where is the .mp4 from? or is it any .mp4?
19:10:39 <wilcal> whatever is in the M8 repo
19:11:18 <Benmc> where did you get the .mp4 video from?
19:11:30 <wilcal> I've i've tried about a half dozen different mp4 files from different sources and different sizes
19:12:08 <Benmc> utube streams ok?
19:12:28 <wilcal> I have yet to try and play an mp4 file that won't play in VLC but will play in Firefox
19:12:54 <Benmc> sorry, got to go
19:13:06 <wilcal> I bet YouTube streams in forefox work fine but I have yet to confirm that
19:13:16 <wilcal> bye ben
19:13:37 <wilcal> much more testing here to do but heads up on this one
19:13:48 <wilcal> Remember I'm using modesetting drivere
19:14:18 <wilcal> and a very very new intel graphics controller
19:14:37 <wilcal> I'll outline all of that in the bug
19:15:19 <wilcal> anyway thanks for thinking about this and any suggestions are warmly accepted
19:15:55 <wilcal> I knew when I bought this Dell laptop something like this may come up
19:16:32 <MageiaTJ> Make sure that after the last round of updates you still have the tainted versions of VLC and ffmpeg, etc. We have seen in M7 where some were not pushed with the non-tainted versions
19:17:04 <wilcal> I will detail all of that in the bug
19:17:27 <wilcal> Hopefully it's something that simple
19:18:07 <wilcal> Ok lets move on
19:18:08 <wilcal> #topic Testing Updates & Backports
19:18:13 <wilcal> Very very short list
19:18:21 <MageiaTJ> If they play OK with one app, I'd tend to not think the video driver was at fault.
19:18:34 <MageiaTJ> Sorry. Too slow.
19:18:43 <wilcal> no problem
19:18:57 <wilcal> The kicker for me is ffplay that works just fine
19:19:31 <wilcal> anything on the updates list
19:19:38 <wilcal> almost nothing there
19:20:01 <wilcal> Lets ,move on and make this a short meeting
19:20:03 <wilcal> #topic Anything else?
19:20:07 <wilcal> ANything else
19:20:45 <wilcal> Nothing
19:20:52 <wilcal> OK guys thanks for being here
19:20:56 <MageiaTJ> My power was off for about 8 hours yesterday.
19:21:01 <hviaene> Not here, I hope to get next week back to rpmbuild
19:21:13 <MageiaTJ> Wind took down a power line.
19:21:33 <wilcal> Power rarely goes off in Sin City USA with Hoover Dam just a few miles up the road :-))
19:21:50 <wilcal> Count down time
19:21:53 <wilcal> T-5
19:21:54 <MageiaTJ> And few trees.
