19:03:40 <MageiaTJ> rained 1/4 inch yesterday, but today you'd never know it.
19:04:00 <wilcal> #topic Who's new?
19:04:08 <wilcal> Anyone new here today?
19:04:28 <wilcal> Nope
19:04:32 <wilcal> #topic M8 Alpha 1 iso testing
19:04:42 <wilcal> So how are we doing?
19:05:17 <bri_an> not as many hours in MGA8 this week, but last updates seemed fine
19:05:19 <krisNL> xfce looks good so far
19:05:32 <Benmc> Martin is onto that timeout bug
19:05:35 <MageiaTJ> There's talk of upcoming beta isos, but they are waiting on a major Plasma update.
19:05:41 <wilcal> I'm running from my new Dell laptop, M8, Plasm, Vbox and Kdenlive run great
19:05:42 <bri_an> based on conversation a new Plasma patch coming to 8
19:05:59 <wilcal> The Big One
19:06:41 <bri_an> so, that should make the next iso's interesting
19:07:04 <wilcal> I'd like to see that Plasma update before new isos
19:07:06 <krisNL> gnome also new version
19:07:15 <bri_an> :-)
19:07:48 <Benmc> looks like our work will be really needed
19:07:50 <wilcal> As we did in the past are there things that can't be fixed after release
19:07:50 <krisNL> so far we have xfce and gnome both in beta versions :)
19:08:21 <krisNL> and they are constantly being updated
19:08:39 <wilcal> Xfce, Gnome and Plasma all at once
19:08:57 <krisNL> ohhh, plasma alos beta, ha
19:11:03 <wilcal> Are the repos everyones using running ok?
19:11:11 <krisNL> openbox is for years stable now, no new versions, and works fine ;-)
19:11:21 <wilcal> I'm using mirrors.kernel.org
19:12:02 <MageiaTJ> I use math.princeton. All OK here at the moment.
19:12:35 <krisNL> my mirror is 2 km from home
19:12:55 <Benmc> $mirrorlist does give an option, as used by CI installer
19:13:05 <wilcal> seems to have been pretty stable for me
19:13:21 <bri_an> no issues here
19:13:42 <Benmc> also, new users, unaware that Mageia installer is aware of user changes, may not set up thier mirros before install
19:13:43 <wilcal> testing continues
19:14:23 <Benmc> KrisNL: my nearest mirror is overseas
19:15:12 <wilcal> FWIW I've disabled the internall SSD on this laptop and am running from a Samsung FIT plus through a USB port
19:15:14 <krisNL> Benmc: your are living on a beautiful island , thtas why
19:16:50 <bri_an> oh I did do a 32-bit install from a xfce-live-dvd. went well
19:17:11 <bri_an> especially considering the ancient coal burning hardware
19:17:12 <wilcal> excellant
19:17:13 <krisNL> a real dvd?
19:17:23 <bri_an> yes - system is too old to boot from usb
19:17:35 <krisNL> nice
19:17:57 <wilcal> I've yet to try a 32-bit on this thhing
19:17:58 <krisNL> how much memory?
19:18:05 <bri_an> 1 GB
19:18:14 <bri_an> it is AMD SEmpron 64-bit
19:18:19 <krisNL> ha! does it behave?
19:18:35 <bri_an> well - hey it boots and is able to open word
19:18:48 <Benmc> sorry guys, got to go
19:18:56 <bri_an> by ben
19:18:59 <bri_an> bye
19:19:19 <krisNL> cheers ben
19:19:20 <MageiaTJ> Bye, Ben.
19:20:05 <krisNL> it seems we didn't find any new bugs with alpha1
19:20:27 <MageiaTJ> That's not a bad thing.
19:20:51 <bri_an> no worries - what comes next might be an adventure. ;0)
19:21:03 <wilcal> I've worked a couple serious ones and one that can't really be fixed
19:21:33 <wilcal> The kdenlive bug looked serious but got resolved
19:21:44 <MageiaTJ> Yes, as I recall, the M7 beta1 crashed Intel graphics systems.
19:22:09 <wilcal> I have to set the graphics to modesetting on this new laptop
19:22:43 <krisNL> they only crash on wilcal s machines ;-)
19:23:00 <wilcal> that's gonna be a problem for the live media on newer intel platforms
19:23:18 <wilcal> the uer is going to boot to a black screen
19:25:20 <wilcal> Anything else on Alpha testing?
19:25:36 <MageiaTJ> Perhaps the installer could be taught to look for the affected hardware and make the proper adjustment.
19:25:52 <wilcal> thats being discussed
19:26:11 <krisNL> i remember that its not the hardware but plasma
19:26:46 <krisNL> if gnome and xfce is working
19:26:49 <MageiaTJ> Well, maybe the new Plasma update will take care of it, then.
19:27:00 <wilcal> if i run Xwm, Gnome or Xfce on this thing without modesetting funny things happen
19:27:32 <wilcal> So all the DE's are effected to some degree. Plasma the most
19:27:34 <krisNL> you should run with modesetting!!! that is our default
19:27:52 <wilcal> When I do an install that's what i do
19:28:08 <krisNL> all intels on xfce and gnome run with modesetting, as default
19:28:20 <wilcal> But a new person running live media on a new intel platform won't know that
19:28:54 <krisNL> they don't have to know, it is default, only plasma doesn't get it
19:29:27 <MageiaTJ> krisNL: I let the installer choose, as long as it works. As far as I know, it always chooses i915 driver on my older Intel hardware.
19:29:47 <wilcal> correct
19:30:00 <wilcal> anything else on M8 testing?
19:30:09 <krisNL> i915 = kernel modesetting
19:30:59 <wilcal> Lets move on
19:31:02 <wilcal> #topic Testing Updates & Backports
19:31:20 <wilcal> Thanks to all for efforts to keep all that in control
19:31:42 <MageiaTJ> The list waiting to be pushed has been cleared away.
19:32:10 <wilcal> keep up the good work
19:32:19 <wilcal> anything on the list that needs discussion
19:33:29 <wilcal> then lets moveon
19:34:03 <wilcal> #topic Anything else?
19:34:16 <wilcal> Anything else
19:34:55 <MageiaTJ> Not from here.
19:35:04 <wilcal> Note that I choose to use the Samsung FIT Plus USB drives 128 & 256 GB to test M8
19:35:11 <wilcal> Sreeeeemmmminnnnggg fast
19:35:19 <krisNL> bye all, see ye next week
